I'm On a Boat

I have no pictures from this weekend, so instead here's some pictures from two weeks ago, that makes sense.

Mission San Luis Rey

I saw a wild rabbit disappear into this rosemary hedge in the cemetery, true story.

Spire

But this looks like it had an owl inside? Maybe it was something to scare the pigeons away.

Evil squirrel burrowing in the gravel, probably trying to hide a body.

Lizard! We'd gotten there late in the day and I think the lizards all thought it was safe to come out and sun themselves.

Different lizard.

Another lizard.

Model of the grounds. I think this was based on historical records because it looks a lot bigger.

Another model, I think this one's present day.

Steps up to the dormitory. The brothers moved out a few years ago and took up residence in a different monastery.

New part of the cemetery.

Part of the garden in the retreat, which is closed to the general public.

I thought this was cute, adding a wrought iron door handle to the crummy public bathroom door, just to match the fixtures in the rest of the place.

I thought pepper trees were native to California! Nope, all imported but they really took well to California. I didn't even notice anything wrong with the sign.

Site of a new archeological dig.

Prickly pear by the lavanderia. Tons and tons of it with signs everywhere that say no touchy.

At the San Diego Wild Animal Park

Our guide Whathisface giving directions on the proper way to feed giraffes acacia leaves.

Big ass spider outside the Lowland Gorilla enclosure, it got more attention than the sad and miserable gorillas. When I say outside, I mean on the public walkways like by the trashcans. It was about the size of a half dollar.

Gibbon.

Other gender of gibbon, I've forgotten which was which but they're the same breed.

Feeding the lorikeets. It was too hard to take a photo of myself so I took a photo of other people.

See? Blurry. Even though he drank up the entirety of his $3/ounce nectar, he wouldn't leave, he crawled up on my shoulder and sat there while I walked around the aviary.

Drank every last drop.

And the big yellow balloon. The basket can hold up to twenty people and it was another way to see the entire park. I liked it, it was very Wizard of Oz.
