Temba, his arms open
This weekend, I went to San Diego because I could and it was someone else's dime. If someone else is paying for it, I can be packed in twenty minutes. No goal in mind, just "go to San Diego, stay somewhere, maybe see things" and so that's what we did. We stopped at Mission San Luis Rey (because I was driving AND I remembered how to get there without a map), the King of the Missions because it's dedicated to Saint Louis, the 12th Century Crusader King of France. Then we were tired, found our hotel, watched a movie and fell asleep. I have yet to see Knocked Up all the way through, by the way.
Anyway, the next day, I decided our next stop was either Lion Country Safari or the Body Worlds exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. Which is not to be confused with Bodies: The Exhibit which is a competing human body plastination exhibit. Anyway, as I'm sure everyone else knew, Lion Country Safari went out of business about twenty years ago but the Wild Animal Park was still there so that's where we went. And we (not me) sprung for the Photo Caravan tour which throws 10 people into the back of an open truck and takes them into the cage-free facilities where the animals are just running loose. The whole back enterprise sounded a lot like the plot of Jurassic Park 2, which, as it turns out, was not far off since the Wild Animal Park was originally just the breeding facilities for the San Dego Zoo and wasn't open to the public. The animals were better able to reproduce when allowed to roam in a more natural environment. There was so much public interest, they decided to charge admission, amen.
Now, the Photo Caravan Tour was pretty much a waste on me because my camera is now on par with cellphone technology but I enjoyed seeing all the critters up close and personal like.
So I do have photos, tons and tons of photos, over 400 according to the thingy so I'll come back later and update this with, you know, actual photos.
