Halloween 2009
I went through several costumes without finishing any of them because I kept changing my mind. First was Monkey as Logan, Vodianova as Francis and Honey Bunny Once More as Jennifer 6. HBOM got sold down the river and Francis' sweater never got made and neither of the Sandmen had trousers. I thought I could muddle along with just Logan and one doll in Carousel but I had to have it done before I left for Texas because I wanted to take pics of them in some sites from the filming of the movie. I didn't finish and I had no interest in searching for the sites so the whole thing fell apart. Then I decided to go with a back up costume I had been making on the side, a little hoot owl but that required cutting out a billion felt feathers and I abandoned that. Then I wanted Peregrine to be Maleficent and someone else to be Aurora but I couldn't find the spinning wheel costume and I got frustrated and threw that aside as well and decided NO COSTUMES FOR ANYONE, dammit!
And then while thumbing through a Crochet Today, I came across this pattern for a candy bag and thought, 'huh, how would that look as Yoda ears? I think I have a yarn that color.' So while watching Xanadu, I made one and thought, 'oh, that's kinda cute, I guess, all I need is a burlap threadbare robe.' I intentionally did not get excited because there was a lot to assemble and if one thing was missing, the whole thing was shot to shit and I wouldn't want to do it. But the Dollar Tree had dishtowels in the same fabric and colors that I wanted (tan and white linen) for Luke and Yoda. Then I decided I had to have Ben too but I needed dark brown. I dared a trip to Joann's and found a fat quarter in the shade I wanted AND I even found lightsabers which are really just cut down kiddie paintbrushes. Hoo-ray. So, all told with the fabric, felt and all, the sum total for these three costumes was about $6. Everything else I already had on hand.
The tracing of bodies and the sewing of clothes was about two hours, I'd say and you can totally tell but it's not like these characters were in couture so I didn't feel bad, I felt like I was adding authenticity. Yeah, authenticity.

Pattern: Ghoulish Candy Bag for the ears.
Yarn: Red Heart Soft in avocado? I think.
Hook: G throughout.
Notes: Chin strap is too big or doll is too bald but it's a little big on her.
