Getting back on track, here is how to knit a Blythe hat on two needles. You can do it in the round too, I suppose, but that's just more needles to slip out and lose in the sofa cushions.

You will need:
1. Size 6 (US) needles
2. Sport- or worsted-weight yarn
3. The ability to knit and purl. Seems simple but you'd be surprised.
4. Know what gauge you get with size 6 needles and the yarn of your choice.

Gauge I'm basing this off of is 5 stitches = 1 inch.

Ready? OK!

Cast on 56 stitches (54 if working in the round).

Work in K2,P2 rib for 3-5 rows or so.

Thereafter, work in stockinette stitch until it measure 3 inches from cast on edge.

Thence to decreasing.

K5, K2 together, K5, K2 together, etc. There may be some leftover stitches at the end. Whatever. They'll catch up.

Work next row plain.

K4, K2 together, K4, K2 together, etc.

Work next row plain.

K3, K2 together, K3, K2 together, etc.

Work next row plain.

K2, K2 together, K2, K2 together, etc. You see how this is going?

Work next row plain.

K1, K2 together, blah, blah.

Work next row plain.

K2 together, K2 together, and so on.

Leaving a big-ass tail, call it a foot or so, thread tail through remaining stitches on needle, pull through and use remainder of tail to join sides.

Boom, hat.
