I love my city

I really do. I take so many things for granted.

I was just on Ravelry and people were discussing this and that. The girls were talking about Bruce Campbell and his movies and I mentioned that I had gone to a small screening of a Bruce Campbell movie and he was in attendance and I had also spoken to him earlier at a tiny book signing the previous year. I did not mention that I would most likely see him again when he came into town. Does it occur to me that these women would die if they came within fifty yards of him? No, it does not. These are people who have never seen the ocean.

Then about ten minutes later (after I sheepishly left that convo), I was in a discussion about combination knitting and the problems one person was having with a student who didn't know terminology. Apparently, the student could knit, but had learned techniques with a different name so the teacher was trying to translate things into this student's individual vocabulary. That seemed ass-backwards to me since that meant the student would never learn to read a pattern unless someone translated it to her first. So I suggested that she teach the student the general terms and the student can compile her own glossary. Of course, by way of example, I said that was how Annie Modesitt did it in a class I took with her.

Then I realized I'd done it again. I've become an asshole who name-drops although I didn't mean to but I'd gone and done it.

So I live in a big city and I take classes with knitting legends, I meet cult-movie celebrities and although I haven't done it in a while, I am occasionally forced to meet popstars.

No, wait! I just remembered I met Super Furry Animals and Alice Cooper not too long ago.

...

I ain't never leaving my city.

Forgot to mention when you got your PhD in Japan while your husband was there making a film.... oh wait, that was me. Umm... oh yeah, when you were a special guest speaker to Parliament and then you gave the commencement speech at Harvard.. oops, me again. I know, that last party you threw and Paul McCartney and Madonna stopped by to give you that PETA award... oh, me again. Hey, I'm pretty cool too!
