A 2 Bedroom, 1 bath condo in the area sells for upwards of $700K
And yet ...
I haven't slept since Monday but I try and I had some moderate success last night but I woke up after about an hour because I was having a dream that the phone was ringing and I lay there waiting for the other rings which of course didn't happen because it was a dream.
But I was awake and shortly afterwards, I heard a series of pops that I realized were gunshots which sounded very close. Then I heard a car peel away, which I expected and I wondered if there were any nightclubs or bars around where that would have happened. Not one minute later I heard police sirens wailing and shortly after that, a helicopter came by flying so low my windows were rattling and my ears almost popped.
I found that confusing, since the helicopter was circling which made me think the guy was on foot but I'd heard a car peel away. I stayed awake for a while to listen if any of the neighbors foolishly came outside or whether I could hear anyone dropping into and running through the yard. I did make sure the windows were closed and the door was locked in case any armed strangers felt like walking inside. Then I fell asleep, finally.
However, on the news this morning, the police issued a statement regarding the incident claiming they had been in pursuit of an armed robber when he stopped his car and shot at the police who then returned fire and killed him.
Curious. There weren't any sirens until after the gunshots, which, if the police returned fire, would have been pointless. A siren-less pursuit of an armed suspect? Curiouser still. I also didn't hear any ambulance or fire station/paramedics sirens so either they took their time coming there or it was obvious the holey fellow wasn't getting up again.
This totally ruins our crime stats now. I wonder if it counts if it's officer-caused?
So begins our new year: illness, violent death, non-stop Jessica Alba, Britney Spears on a 5150 hold.
BUT I haven't bought anything off eBay so far this year and I have not turned to cannibalism or Kabbalah so ... so far, so good?
This was from my last photos of 2007. It came out tremendously blurry but I liked it anyway because it had City Hall in the background.

Hey, the Daily Planet in the background, cool! No Kabbllllahhhhh (sic!) is indeed a good thing. Remains cheaper to rent, by far. Get well. Don't get shot. My ENVY of your self-discipline to stay off Ebay. Don't worry, I've bought enough for the both of us and ten friends.
